Our story began in 1955, when the School of Engineering was formed under the University of Malaya. The inaugural batch of students pursued a general Engineering course with a Specialisation in Civil Engineering, earning a degree recognised by the Institution of Civil Engineers.
Following Singapore’s independence, the Department of Civil Engineering was established under the Faculty of Engineering, University of Singapore. For seven decades, the Department has been at the forefront of innovations, cultivating generations of engineers who have played a pivotal role in shaping Singapore’s progress.
Today, we are proud to be ranked 3rd in the world and 1st in Asia in the latest QS World University Ranking by Subject.
As we reflect on our rich history, we also recognise the challenges that lie ahead. Our groundbreaking research and innovation continue to tackle global issues—from climate resilience to sustainability—driving progress toward a better future for generations to come.
The theme of our milestone celebration is clear: Celebrating Our Achievements, Innovating the Future.
